The World Education Forum 2015 took place in May 18-21, in Incheon, Republic of korea. More than 1,500 participants were invited by the UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, with more than 100 Ministers of Education, heads and members of delegations, heads of agencies and officials of multilateral and bilateral organizations, and representatives of civil society, the teaching profession, youth and the private sector. Along UNESCO, the Government of Korea, UNICEF, the World Bank, UNFPA, UNDP, UN Women, and UNHCR, made contributions to lead this milestone event for Education 2030.

On this historic occasion, we reafirm the vision of the worldwide movement for Education for All (EFA) initiated in Jomtien in 1990 and reiterated in Dakar in 2000 – the most important commitment to education in recent decades and which has helped drive significant progress in education. Having taken stock of progress made towards the EFA goals since 2000 and the education-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as the lessons learned, and having examined the remaining challenges and deliberated on the proposed 2030 education agenda and the Framework for Action as well as on future priorities and strategies for its achievement, the participants have adopted the Incheon Declaration “Education 2030: Towards inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning for all.

Before the official start of the World Education Forum 2015, the 2015 NGO Forum took place with civil society represents from all the world, where was asopted the “2015 NGO Forum Declaration: Towards the Right to Inclusive Quality Public Education and Lifelong Learning Beyond 2015.

During the press conference celebrated after the Open Ceremony of the World Education Forum 2015, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, they expressed the important role of building a global citizenship to be succeed with the educational targets of the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

The presence of Mr. Kailash Satyarthi (avobe), 2014 Nobel Peace Prize along Malala Yousafzai, was highlighted in the World Education Forum 2015. Javier Collado had the opportunity to interview him for the next edition of Global Education Magazine, with occasion of the International Youth Day.

Representatives and Ministers of Education and Culture of Latin America and the Caribbean gathered at the World Education Forum 2015 during the May 21 joint statement.

In harmony with the new educational agenda 2030, the Ministers of Education and Culture of Latin America and the Caribbean prepared an official statement in which they compromised to advance in quality education systems, reaffirming that education is a fundamental human right, the basis for ensuring the realization of other rights, and is essential for prosperity and peaceful, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable growth in the region. During the meetings, we also had the opportunity to interview the Minister of Education of Brazil, Mr. Renato Janine Ribeiro (left) and Minister of Education of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Mr. Roberto Aguilar Gomez (right).

The World Education Forum 2015 was a meeting point between the different educational agents worldwide to promote participatory contexts and including cultural diversity to achieve the targets of post-2015 sustainable development agenda. A commitment fixed in Rio+20 where the Open Working Group led by Prof. Jeffrey Sachs has been working in the last months to elaborate the objectives and indicators of the new Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) for 2030, where education is the SDG4 and seeks to ensure an inclusive, equitable and quality education promoting lifelong learning for all.

In this context of globalization, there is growing interest in global citizenship education (GCED), signaling a shift in the role and purpose of education to that of forging more just, peaceful, tolerant and inclusive societies. The United Nations Secretary-General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI), launched in 2012, has been instrumental in raising awareness of the importance of global citizenship to building a better future for all. UNESCO, in response to the increasing demand from its Member States for support in empowering learners to become responsible global citizens, has made GCED one of its key education objectives for the next eight years (2014-2021).

Prof. Javier Collado Ruano was invited to attend Rio+20 after his proposal “THE VALUE OF GLOBAL EDUCATION AS AN ENGINE TO PROMOTE POVERTY ERADICATION AND TO ACHIEVE A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ” was the most voted by civil society around the world. Prof. Collado has been traveling around more than 50 countries in the last years in order to create innovative proposals for the “Global Citizenship Education” proposed by UNESCO.

Second UNESCO Forum on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Building Peaceful and Sustainable Societies: Preparing for Post-2015 took place on January 28-30, 2015, in UNESCO Head-Quarter Paris. Global Citizenship Education (GCED) aims to equip learners of all ages with those values, knowledge and skills that are based on and instill respect for human rights, social justice, diversity, gender equality, and environmental sustainability and that empower leaners to be responsible global citizens. GCED gives learners the competencies and opportunity to realize their rights and obligations to promote a better world and future for all.

For measurement purposes and the development of educational goals, objetives and learning outcomes, UNESCO made a consultation with experts from around the world, where Javier Collado Ruano was invited as Director of Edition at Global Education Magazine. During the congress, Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova received the reward of Honorary Membership in Global Education Magazine for her life commitment in Education, Peace, Human Rights, and Sustainable Development.

At the international event, Javier Collado had the opportunity to let experts know about his work Global Citizenship Education and Sustainable Development Goals: A Transdisciplinary and Biomimetic Perspective“, a research that seeks to integrate eco-ethics as a pedagogical practice in the implementation of the GCED: identifying the vital axises that constitute the interdependence of ecosystems to make a biomimetic application in social, political, and educational structures of human systems.

In August 2014, Director of Edition at Global Education Magazine, Javier Collado, was invited by Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, Director at “ITI-Earthsavers UNESCO DREAM Center in Philippines”, to attend Ninoy Aquino Movement. On the occasion of the 31st Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Ninoy Aquino, Cecile and Javier had an interview in DZRH radio, where they talked about their meeting in the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), the youth development policies of UNESCO DREAM Center in the Philippines, the last interview done in the International Day of Woman, Global Citizenship Education proposed by UNESCO, and the solidary project of Global Education Magazine.

The National Tribute to Ninoy Aquino was organized by the authorities of the Manila International Airport, in cooperation with the Philippine Commission on Human Rights, ATOM/Spirit of EDSA/Kalampagin Konsiyensyang Kinakalawang, and UNESCO DREAM Center of the Philippines. During the commemorative ceremony, were noted the messages from Dr. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, and HE Benigno C. Aquino III, President of the Republic of the Philippines.

Meeting with UNESCO Viet Nam: Bioliteracy and Sustainable Schools

The last month of July 2014, Education for Life NGO President, Javier Collado, had the opportunity to visit Viet Nam UNESCO in Ha Noi. During the event, Mrs. Katherine Muller Marin, UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam, was talking about the coordination that UNESCO has been enhanced between schools and local authorities on Education for Sustainable Development. She also expressed the importance to change the traditional education focused in concepts and terminologies, by increasing participatory methodologies to make communities more prepared, resilient and sustainable.

In this sense, schools and their surrounding communities are under constant threat. The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), UNESCO and Samsung Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Initiative in Viet Nam has made significant steps to create an enabling environment for schools and communities to identify their own risks and threats and to develop and implement joint plans. Most importantly, the Initiative promotes the need for preparing bioliterate citizens who understand Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration is one of the most relevant tools for disaster preparedness and climate change mitigation. “Bioliteracy is the ability to understand the language of life. Bioliterate citizens are those capable of developing in harmony with nature,” expressed Mrs. Muller Marin. “Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training, Viet Nam Man and Biosphere Programme, UNESCO and the Biosphere Reserve Management Board, children have increased their knowledge on the challenges linked to Education for Sustainable Development such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and other environmental issues.

In the meeting, they also talked about the technical consultation on Global Citizenship Education and the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development – Learning Today for a Sustainable Future  which will take place on 10-12 November in Japan with the occasion of the end of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.

TheATLAS Conference 2014: Transdisciplinary, Transnational, and Transcultural

The International Conference program consisted in selected papers emphasizing transdisciplinary, transnational, and transcultural global problems. During the conference, multicultural researchers, practitioners, and educators shared their experiences and thoughts concerning the impact diverse cultural backgrounds have on education.

ATLAS celebrated a special event in order to honoring Professor Dr. Basarab Nicolescu for his contribution to Transdisciplinary. At the same event, Professor Dr. Basarab Nicolescu also accepted to become the first Honorary Membership in Global Education Magazine, an e-journal edited by the NGO Education for Life and DMMDC.

With the title “The Cosmodernity: a Transdisciplinary, Transnational, and Transcultural Approach to Build a Transdemocratic Horizon in the Global Citizenship Education Proposed by UNESCO”, Javier Collado Ruano presented the paper written along his supervisors Dr. Dante Augusto Galeffi and Dr. Roberto Inacio Leon Ponczek from the Federal University of Bahia (Brazil).

Global Citizenship Education: Toward a Progress Without Frontiers

The team of “Educar Para Vivir”, with Javier Collado as coordinator, proposes in this video the idea that Global Citizenship Education supports cross-cultural and innovative methodologies to achieve meaningful learning, and a phenomenological awareness of citizenship to achieve progress in humanity ́s evolution. We assent to the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations for 2015 and 2025.

Through Educar Para Vivir we approach the teaching-learning process from the adjacent dialectic of multidisciplinary issues that Global Citizenship Education enable us to build. We appreciate diffusion of knowledge in an effort to avoid cognitive conflicts between different educational actors. Consequently, through Educar Para Vivir we can find and experience meaningful and pragmatic learning about various problems of the globalized world of the twenty-first century. Meaningful learning is motivated by existentialism and by the theoretical-epistemological fundamentals of socio-constructivism that a truly Global Citizenship Education enables. Approaching teaching and learning this way, we are making an effort to get a free, fair and equal society.

Photo Exhibition “Education for Life: Towards a Global and Planetary Education”

The team of “Education for Life”, is pleased to present the photographic exhibition: EDUCATION FOR LIFE: TOWARD A GLOBAL AND PLANETARY EDUCATION, to be held in the HOUSE oF CULTURE from day 10 to February 26, 2012, Almansa, Spain.

The purpose of Professor Javier Collado is to contribute to achieving the general objectives and core competencies set by the Organic Law 2/2006 of March 3, in the high school, with the “diffusion of knowledge” through a photo exhibition and an educational-multidisciplinary talk and consciousness-raising that will address the “different realities-realities equal” to live in the countries he has been working in Latin America: Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico.

The money proceeds from the sale of photographs will go to the International Association of Healthcare in Spain (AISE).

Who are we?

“Education for Life” NGO has a philosophy based to raise awareness to all different educational and social agents through a holistic and internationalist education.

Our team of volunteers teachers are based on different multidisciplinary methodologies to improve consciousness among students, families, teachers, medias and institutions. In this sense, we believe educators should try to help in the process to achieve the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations, because educational activity is a prospective act which should think about the future and, then, anticipate to him in order to be ready when it arrives. Therefore, education is not only a basic human right, but it is also an essential component of economic and social development, that is, it is the main resort and the greatest wealth that a country can have. It is clear that the sum of educated people in the same values ​​of democracy and solidarity possible will open the possibility for social community changes.

Also, thinking in peace, poverty eradication and sustainable development can only be the result of equity, sprouted from the appreciation and respect for cultural diversity. This diversity is inherent in our holistic and internationalist education. Defining historical features of each one means understand the humanity common past from same ethnocultural trunks. It is urgent to restructure the international community through Global Citizenship Education for development, which supports the source of life and equity, and an antidote for all forms of social exclusion, poverty, racism and economic domination .

Knowing successive migratory flows that have been outlined on the face of the Earth throughout history, Global Citizenship Education should looking for humanist unity in difference, which means the acceptance of trans-culturalism: a phenomenon involving the coexistence of different cultures in one space. This situation demands a new ethic based on respect for different, and involves decision, political will, mobilize and organization of all educational stakeholders to enhance dynamic and critical thinking, which generate new ideas that promote economic and social development, aimed at creating a better world in the future.

The conclusion is clear: in a world where your coffee is Colombian, your beer from Belgium, the movies from United States, your car from Germany, where you listen British music, you have a Swiss Watch, and you use italian clothes, why call “foreign” to your neighbor?
